My
performance based rituals are attempts to extend and understand the
relationships around me. Working collaboratively allows a sense of shared
experience. I am fascinated with the different levels in which an audience or
artists can collaborate and create together.Textiles offer a myriad of metaphors
related to cloth, fabric, thread, and the body. I stitch to extend my
understanding of relationships and connections between myself and others.
People act as my medium as I physically bind us together, giving thread a
symbolic presence of what unites us. I yearn for some sort of human
interaction, therefore I fabricate props, produce extensions of the body and
enact simple stitched rituals as an attempt to connect with others. Neither
object, creator nor audience member can perform the actions alone. Without
each to build and experience these
engagements, the performances do not exist.
